Fossil Shell Identification on. Ammonites Ammonites are coiled up shells, with ridges (with exceptions). Some have their original colors (red, purple, pink, blue, orange, green, yellow or brown).
Free fossil identification. Myophorella are recognised by their unique spine-covered shell. 5 cm is a decent size for a Myophorella. It has spines in diagonal rows; the spines meet the ridge at an angle then go out from the ridge at the same angle. It has one ridge and the growth lines aren't always visible. It has an asymmetrical shell.
Fossil identification and classification. Fossils of animals are classified, as are living specimens, by observing the body structures and functions. While there are a few unique challenges in classifying fossils, the basic scheme of organization is the same. Going one step at a time can make fossil identification possible for anyone.
